© Sarah_AckermanWe've just said goodbye to September and soon enough, Halloween will be here. Before gearing up your young trick-or-treaters, consider this new warning from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI).
According to experts from the ACAAI, halloween trappings such as dusty costumes, fog machines and makeup can trigger asthma and allergies. Regarding this matter, experts have advised about planning ahead and considering not only safe treats, but also safe costumes, makeup, accessories and decorations.
Below are a few things that allergy and asthma-conscious parents must watch out for:
Although a less common trigger, gelatin in gummy bears and other candies contains allergens that could be harmful to your child.
Look for alternative costume details and accessories (i.e. belts, tiaras and swords) that doesn't contain nickel. Nickel is among the common causes of allergic contact dermatitis. So better stay away from Halloween gears that contain nickel.
For sure you can find ways of letting your kids enjoy Halloween this year without the dreaded allergy or asthma attack.
