Worker Spreads Peanuts in Peanut-Free Factory
Filed in archive Food Allergies on January 22, 2009
I agree with food allergy blogger Janeen, this guy ought to be in sued for deliberately scattering peanuts in a manufacturing plant that's supposed to be peanut-free.
Paul Bentley scattered peanuts round his nut-free factory - causing the plant to shut for 24 hours.
The closure and clean-up cost Pork Farms more than £1.2million in lost production of ready meals for stores including Sainsbury's and Marks & Spencer.
It's not just about the financial loss (which will, at the end of the day, also be shouldered by the consumers) but no provocation, and certainly no the flimsy one reported, is worth endangering the lives of so many food allergic people who rely on the few products that are manufactured in certified peanut-free plants.
