When Visiting Relatives
Filed in archive Food Allergies on March 17, 2007
Again, my apologies for the irregular postings here at Allergizer. I am currently on travel, this time with my son. It seems like no matter how many times we've visited my folks, and although everyone supposedly knows my son's multiple food allergies, I can't afford to be less vigilant. Just a few days ago, we had an incident, my son breaking out in hives and throwing up after eating a couple of spoonfuls of ice cream... which apparently had grated peanuts!
In cases like these, who's to blame? The person who gave the ice cream, who didn"t bother to read the labels? Or me, the mother, for not screening each and every food item handed to my son? Both of us, I guess. And the poor child had to pay for it. Luckily, his allergy symptoms were not worse, and subsided within an hour or so (Fenistil drops were adequate).
Now I'm extra careful, reminding every one about his allergies, over and over and over again.

So sorry your son had a reaction! I just very thankful that it wasn't any more serious than it was. I worry so much about those types of situations. Good luck with the rest of your trip.
