Allergy Medications

"It was hundreds of times more active against histamine than the other drugs we were looking at," Rieveschl said. "It was obvious that it had a special feeling toward antagonizing histamine, and with the activity it had against histamine, it ought to be tried out against allergies and things."
Rieveschl shared his patent with Fred Huber, a doctoral candidate who was his lab assistant, and Parke, Davis and Co. - now part of Pfizer Inc. - started marketing Benadryl in May 1946. The patent for Benadryl expired in 1964, and it's now sold over the counter.

Thank you Mr. Rieveschl for your contribution to the world! I take great pride in the opportunity to thank you. My son received Benadryl through his IV when he would have an allergic reaction to his platelet transfusion. We would call it his Benadryl nap (he was only three). Why I say I take great pride in this opportunity is I know you started your education at Lockland School District of which I am an employee. I have spoken to you on the phone and thanked you also for your contributions to Crayons to Computers. Our teachers greatly appreciate your generosity. Again, thank you for your enormous contribution to society. Sincerely, Meredith "Mert" Fritsch, Lockland School District.
