Symptoms of Dental Allergies
Filed in archive Metal Allergies on April 12, 2007
Like I mentioned before, those with metal allergies may also have problems with dental crowns and inlays or dentures which may have nickel and chromium-containing materials in them. How do you recognize if that discomfort in your mouth is an allergic reaction? Here are some clues to look for:
- Swollen and red or purple gums
- Shrinking or recessed gums
- Painful or itchy gums
- Bleeding gums
- Unpleasant smell or taste
It's normal to have some or all of these short after a new crown or denture, but if these symptoms do not go away within a couple of days, your gums might be suffering from an allergy. See your dentist; maybe you'd need to have your fittings replaced.
