Summer Time, Pollen Allergy Time
Filed in archive Hay Fever , Living with Allergies on August 13, 2007
It's the peak of summer, and soon it's also the peak bloom-time for ragweed, the enemy number 1 of people with hay fever. If you're starting to feel its presence in the air -itchy eyes and nose, sneezing and wheezing- there are a few things you cna do which could possibly alleviate your allergy symptoms. While it's too late for immunotherapy, the most you can do is to reduce exposure to absolute minimum. Check with your allergist which medication is best for you to manage your symptoms.
For more tips on how to survive the next few weeks as itch-free as possible, have a look at AAAAI's feature article on Ragweed, Allergies and Hay Fever. It's a year old, but ragweed allergy is an annual condition that peaks at this time of the year, so it doesn't really matter. When this season is over, consult your allergist and find out if immunotherapy (allergy vaccines) is something you could try in preparation for next year's allergy season. It does take several weeks for the protection to kick in, so better consult your doctor now.
