Skin Allergies? Maybe Your Dentist's To Blame
Filed in archive Metal Allergies , Skin Allergies on June 18, 2006
Actually, the title of the article was "Allergy sufferers could turn to dentists for relief", but then goes on to tell a story of a survey in Japan correlated warts similar to athlete's foot on the hands and feet of patients who received metal dental fillings.
Apparently, the metals used in the fillings --gold, platinum, palladium, silver, nickel, cobalt, mercury and tin-- induced allergic reactions which were manifested on the patients' skin. Unfortunately, becasue there is little coordination between demartologists and dentists, it took a while to figure out the culprit.
Come to think of it, I've had mercury fillings (removed and replaced with plastic in the meantime), and I doubt it even occured to my dentist to test for allergies. How about you? Did your dentist ask about your allergies, apart maybe regarding allergy to drugs (anitbiotics, anesthetics, etc)?

My dentist will not listen to me either. Two yrs ago he inserted a bridge in upper right quad in Dec. By Jan the itching/skin pricking sensation was driving me crazy. It started with my scalp, moved to my back, then the underside of my arms, and finally my legs. My doc ran blood panels looking for cancers, lupus, etc. Had a full allergy panel. Chest xray for lung cancer. All negative. My gums are now so sore and inflamed with blisters, but since the inflammation in not in the upper right quad my dentist will not believe that I may be allergic to this bridge. He's done nothing to help me get to the bottome of this. In fact I think he thinks I'm cuckoo.
