Rep. Kagen Receives FDA Warning for Manufacturing and Selling Allergy Shots
Filed in archive Allergy Medications , Hay Fever on January 15, 2007
Rep. Steve Kagen has received a warning letter from the FDA regarding his practice's apparent violation of federal law for manufacturing and selling allergy shots without a valid license. Kagen's clinics are compounding and selling allergy injection such as Poly RW, Super Ragweed, Poly Grass and Super Grass to his patients.
Compounding generally involves preparing a customized medication for an individual patient with a doctor's prescription, according to the FDA. While that is legal, compounding operations run afoul of the FDA and federal law when they produce drugs on a scale more consistent with that of drug manufacturers than, say, that of retail pharmacies.
Considering he's a doctor and a politician, one would think he'd know about this. Read the full news report and accompanying video.
