Raw, Unpasteurized Milk May Help Prevent Eczema and Hay Fever
Filed in archive Hay Fever , Living with Allergies , Skin Allergies on August 8, 2006
There have been recent findings that suggest that drinking raw (unpasteurized) milk reduces a child's chances of developing hay fever and eczema. They observed that even in children who just drank raw milk occasionally, there is a reduced histamine levels in the blood.
These data all seems promising, but before you go buy your raw milk, bear in mind that there are health risks to drinking unpasteurized milk as well. food poisoning due to E.coli and Campylobacter is all too possible, and is a risk I am not sure I'd like to take, especially where children are involved.

I recently took my 2-year old to a chiropractor/kinesiologist, who recommended the the same thing: raw milk (along with other "real" food) for a period of time for treating his eczema.

Hi Ria! I thought your son had milk allergies?
As a microbiologist, drinking raw milk is something I personally wouldn't highly recommend, though.

We have been drinking raw milk from grass fed cows now for over a year with absolutely no bad reactions whatsoever. Do your research before making up your own mind, but to me, pasteurized milk is WAY more problematic and dangerous to our health than raw. There is a lot of propoganda out there against raw milk and it's mostly outdated and brought on by big milk firms and lobbyists. Just a side note, since this is an allergy blog and it's what brought me here:
I have been experiencing severe hay fever brought on by ragweed for 2 weeks now. We had been off of our raw milk for a couple of months, buying pasteurized store milk. Today, we went up to the farm to get 5 gallons of raw milk from our cowshare. I immediately poured myself about 6 oz for refreshment, no other reason. That was about 4 hours ago and I'd like to report that since drinking the delicious, creamy raw milk from grass fed cows, I have been able to breathe more freely than any other time in the past 2 weeks. We'll have to see how it progresses as I add it back into my diet in the next few weeks, but I am just so happy to feel like I can breathe again!!!! If you don't know where to buy it, go to www.realmilk.com and click on "where". It will give you your state to pick and you can go from there.
