Product Alert: Oscar Mayer Fast Franks
Filed in archive Food Allergies , Product Alerts on May 23, 2007
Starting this year, food manufacturers have been mandated to write their labels in plain language, particularly for the top 8 food allergens. That means, instead of writing casein or albumin on the ingredient list is not enough; the words milk and eggs, respectively, should also be indicated. This move was initiated to help consumers understand the labels and prevent them from overlooking hazards hidden from these scientific terms.
Kraft Foods, for example, is re-labelling all Oscar Mayer Fast Franks Hot Dog in a Bun and Oscar Mayer Fast Franks Beef Franks in a Bun. The ingredient label indicates that there is "whey" in the bun, but does not also state that the whey is derived from milk. If you have milk allergies, better beware of these snacks. They can also be bought from vending machines, where you can hardly inspect the labels.
If you have further questions or would like a refund, you can call Kraft Foods at (800)308-1841.
