Pollen Levels Reaching Record High
Filed in archive Hay Fever on May 25, 2006
Over the past several weeks, all bodies of water here in our area looked like this (photo left), even the puddles on the street short after a drizzle. I think this is the first time I've ever seen so much pollen. In fact, experts say that this is the cities have been reaching record levels of pollen counts, the worst in about 40 to 50 years!
What accounts for this high levels of pollen in the air? A combination of a delayed mild winter and lots of rain equals more weeds, more flowers, more pollen.
And the bad news doesn't stop there. Even if spring is nearly over, certain trees and ragweed, the number one cause of asthma, don't bloom til August. That means there's still a long while til the air is clear!
How are you coping up? If you are experiencing new symptoms you've never had before, such as noticeable wheezing or coughing, you might need more than your normal allergy medications. Consult with your doctor for proper treatment.
