Pet Allergies Restrict Children's Lifestyles
Filed in archive Pet Allergies on June 20, 2006
According to a recent survey presented at the recently concluded Congress of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), children who have allergy to pets lead a significantly restricted lifestyle (see report here). Well, as a mother of one who has allergies, I know for a fact that a restricted lifestyle is not limited only to those with pet allergies, but any allergy, as a matter of fact. Food allergies, in particular can be very stressful and restrictive.
Pet allergies can be equally problematic, not only to the health, but also regarding to children's social life. For example, visiting or staying overnight with a friend who owns a pet is a no-go.
Biotechnological innovations such as the hypoallergenic dogs and cats may provide a substitute, but still won't make social life any lighter.
