Peanut Detector Dogs
Filed in archive Food Allergies , Gadgets and Tools Against Allergies by ruth on June 12, 2008
Have you ever heard of peanut-detector dogs? These are special breeds of dogs specially trained to recognize the scent of minuscule amounts of peanuts, pretty much like those trained to sniff explosives or narcotics.
Southern Star Ranch peanut detector dogs are fully trained in peanut detection, manners and obedience. Gentle and loving, the "Peanut Dogs" are excellent for anyone, and are allowing children a new-found independence. These confident and disciplined working dogs, trained to be comfortable in and accustomed to all environments, will accompany you to restaurants and other public places, quietly alerting you to possible danger. Friendly and well socialized, the "Peanut Dog" will greet guests in your home and discreetly scan them for peanut residue in order to minimize the chance of contamination.

If you or a loved one has an extreme sensitivity to peanuts, this may be a feasible option. If you have pet allergies (pet dander allergies), they recommend getting a poodle instead of the more hairy breeds.

Now, if they could train a dog to detect the top 8, wouldn't that even be more cool?
