Non-Food Party Ideas for Allergy-Safe Birthdays
Filed in archive Food Allergies , Living with Allergies on September 18, 2008

© FoxtongueI've been running around town the last few days organizing the my son's birthday party. Gee, I can't believe he's turning 6!
That also means I've been doing this half a dozen times already- running around town looking for an allergy-free cake and other refreshments, and allergy-safe stuffing for the loot bags, etc. One would guess it becomes easier and easier with each year's passing, and it actually does, because over the years he has outgrown a number of his food allergies. However, we relocated last year, so it's back to square one regarding sourcing allergy-safe party paraphernalia.
If you're looking for birthday party ideas and there is at least one child with food allergies attending, check out Allergymoms' 100 Non-edible Birthday Treats.

Birthday parties can be so hard with food allergies. My son is anaphylactic to all dairy products. We have a great cake recipe that is dairy-free, egg-free and butter-free.
Dotie’s Chocolate Cake
3 c flour
2 c white sugar
6 T cocoa (unsweetened)
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c vegetable oil
2 c water
2 T distilled white vinegar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2-3/4 tsp. salt
In large bowl mix all dry ingredients. In another bowl
mix all wet ingredients. Add to dry ingredients. Beat
until smooth. Bake in a greased 9” x 13” pan at 350° F. for
20-25 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
Fa% Fud! Fro%ing
1 lb. confectioner’s sugar
1/2 c cocoa, unsweetened
1/4-1/2 scant tsp. salt
1/3 c boiling water
1/3 c shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine sugar, cocoa and salt. Add water, shortening,
and vanilla. Blend until smooth. Yield: 2 - 3 cups

A Brief Reminder that there are TWO Sides to the Allergy COIN ...
Namely..
>> FOOD ( Both Immediate IgE & Delayed IgG4 )
>> AND InHalant / Enviro
To Often Parents of Children with FOOD Allergies Focus Exclusively on the FOOD Side of the COIN...
and Fail to be Treatment Responsive to the Enviro Side i.e. Animal, Dust, Mites, Pollens etc.
It is IMPORTANT to Know:
#1) Allergy Med's ONLY Mask ALLERGY Symptoms while the Allergy Disease Source Only Gets Worse.. Do You want your Child Taking Allergy Med's for the Rest of their LIFE ?
#2) (Enviro) ALLERGY is a Cumulative, Progressive, Chronic Disease... with UnTreated Mod / Severe Infant / Child Allergy following the Clinically Established Sequence of Allergy Disease... Allergic MARCH .. to Allergic ASTHMA ( Ouch ! ).
It is IMPORTANT to Blood Test & Treat YOUR FOOD Allergy Child for Enviro Allergy as Well...
NOW...
Old Fashion Allergy SHOTs have been Replaced with KID Friendly > Under-the-Tongue ImmunoTherapy DROPs which are CUSTOM Formulated Based on the Child's ALLERGY Test Result.
ALLERGY ImmunoTherapy is the ONLY Medical Evidence-Based Therapy that Neutralizes the SOURCE of ALLERGY and STOPs the Progression of Allergy Disease.
TEST / Identify / Know / TREAT
BOTH Sides of Your Childs ALLERGY Profile.
