Nissan Develops Grape Seed Filter to Counter Pollen Allergies
Filed in archive Gadgets and Tools Against Allergies , Hay Fever on December 29, 2006
Nissan has developed a new type of filter which may bring better relief for those with pollen allergies.
Conventional filters are designed to block mainly dust and pollen particles with a minimum size of 10 micron. This allows adequate removal of pollen in particle form, but it is not very efficient in blocking smaller particles such as diesel particulates or other allergens. Polyphenol has the ability to neutralise allergens of cedar pollen and dust mites, and nissan's researchers have taken advantage of this unique property to create a high performance filter using fibre impregnated with natural grape seed polyphenol.
In addition to the polyphenols, the fibers in this new type of filter also carries electric charges, which also help trap very small particles. The filters will be introduced into Nissan's range of compact cars in Japan beginning December this month.
