Looking for an Allergist
Filed in archive Living with Allergies on September 26, 2007
Can you imagine that in Scotland, immunologists are so few that allergy patients may wait up to five years before they get treatment?

Allergy UK chief executive Muriel Simmons said that many allergy sufferers were getting a raw deal, with only two immunologists, compared with 26 in England.
Ms Simmons said this resulted in difficulties getting a referral, with some people travelling south of the border to get a diagnosis.
She added that once a certain number of weeks had passed, referrals were actually rejected.
"So people go to their doctors who will refer them, however, because the hospitals don't want a huge waiting list, they won't take the referral," she said.
If you're looking for one, you may want to check out AAAAI's online tool for locating an allergist. Specialists from various countries are listed there. I hope you find one near you!

With spring time quickly approaching here in NY, I can't imagine someone having to wait all that time to see an allergist in the height of hay fever season.
