While we were painting the first of this year's batch, I found myself wondering how bad egg painting would really be for someone who has (slight) egg allergies. Obviously, if someone is anaphylactically allergic to eggs, it isn't worth the risk. But for someone who displays symptoms only if they actually eat eggs, or those who are allergic only to the egg whites but can tolerate egg yolks — shouldn't Easter egg painting be a relatively safe activity?

Our son has an anaphylactic allergic response to eggs and wheezes if they are boiled in the same room with him, so for us egg coloring is but a memory. For those not so allergic, I say go for it!! Food allergic children should do EVERYTHING they can do safely and not overprotected for the well being of their parents! Parents of food allergic children - let your children live life to the fullest extent they are capable of! I have three children, two food with life threatening food allergies. Learn your child's limits with your doctor, then let them experience life! Remember to always carry a couple of epi-pens!
