Immunotherapy to Treat Semen Allergies
Filed in archive Allergy: Diagnostics and Treatment , Other Allergies on November 14, 2006
A few days ago, I wrote about cases of women having the misfortune of having allergies to semen, thus the title alluding to allergies to sex.
I mentioned virtually unsatisfactory methods of managing semen allergies, such as the use of condom or absolute abstinence. However, doctors say there might be a more acceptable, long-term treatment for such conditions.
As used in treating other forms of allergies, immunotherapy might just work. In such a procedure, the patient is desensitized by regular exposure to small amounts of the allergen, in this case, the semen. 'Exposure' here may either mean as injections, or directly "down there". However, it might not work for some women. Read the FoxNews report for more details.
