Grazax Pill Vaccine Against Hay Fever, Available Soon in the UK

At last, but my GP has never heard of it, and won't refer me to an allergist.
So what I do. Is there any private clinic using this new vaccine?

i was reffered to an allergy clinic but they told me to use antihistamines which i told them dont work .I am very excited about grazax as i dread summer coming as i get worse every year.Where can i buy this pill ?

John, Joan: This might be because the pills are not yet officially launched in the UK. At present, it is only available in Germany. But according to reports, it should available this month.

It is now available in the UK according to my GP. (from 1st Jan)You probably need to put up a bit of a fight for it. Also, a GP should be able to refer you to an immunologists/ENT/private GP who will sort you out if your GP says no

The pills are going to cost me £92.13 for a pack of 30. Well worth it if it does what it says on the packet!! However, the first dose MUST be administered in a controlled environment as you can have a reaction to it within 20 - 30 minutes. I am having my first dose next week! Can't wait as I was dreading another season of sneezing and all that goes with the dreaded hay fever!

No sign of this drug in New Zealand yet. I guess I will have to resource to acupuncture for another year.

Steve, does accupuncture really work? How often do you go? How long do the results last? Although I've come across reports of acupuncture use for allergies, I still don't know much about it. Care to share?

i just had my tonsils out last week and i read that you cannot take this tablets if recent oral surgery has been done.Anyway,I am still interested to talk about it with my GP about possible prescripton because I do get worst hayfever.It has affected my life tremendously but the misery of hayfever is still underplayed.This drug,I hope will save me.

Ruth and everyone! I tried Grazak (under medical supervision for the first dose) for 5 days with some reactions such as slight closing of my airways and minor itching and a red rash. However on the 6th day I was taken to A&E as the reactions were more severe. Something in Grazak attacked the lining of my gut causing immense pain. My airways were closing and I had rashes and extreme itching on my extremities, lasting for approx 5 hours. My consultant is aware of all this and says he will not now prescribe Grazak to anyone without further investigations. I am back to square one. Anyone who has this prescribed for them MUST do so under suprevised medical conditions as there is a chance of an anaphalactic shock (Sorry, not sure of the spelling!) If it is found to be suitable for you, then it may work well but it was not to be for me and I am back to square one taking antihistamines and nasal sprays to no effect really! It is a disappointing result for me but I will be keen to know how anyone else gets on! Good Luck!

I hope it'll be available in Italy soon as my sons's future is impaired by hey fever.

They should distribute it all over Europe. I have an aunt with some really nasty problems and she can't afford to pay taxes every time she needs good medication.

When will they release one against cat allergy? I love cats, and I hate the fact that I can't be around them even for a moment, or I start sneezing and feeling sick.

i was on one of the london trials of this over 3 years ago. It was a long study with comprehensive recording of daily responses and symptoms. it certainly helped me and i was symptom free for the whole summer. The subsequent years have not been symptom free but my sensitivity has certainly lessened - it has to be a really high pollen count for me to have what i consider a extreme reaction, low to moderate levels i sneeze a bit but virtually no other symptoms (i used to spend about 3 months of the year nose streaming, sneezing, itchy eyes you wanna gouge out, being dehydrated through loss of fluids and generally not good outdoors and grumpy as a result) now these only occur at peak season. its a shame the NHS are reluctant to spend the money but it _is_ expensive and probably many other drugs are more important, however £2 a day for 3 years does seem cheap to virtually eliminate the whole allergy.
anyways my advice would be - if you can aford it or find a dr willing to prescribe then go for it, you have lots to gain. :)

I also took part in the trials 4 years ago. The only problem I had was some itching in the mouth the first few times I took the pill. I had a really good summer for the first time in 25 years - very few symptons, only a bit of sneezing when I went for a country walk on a high pollen day. The following year my symptons did not seem as bad as usual, but they seem to have reverted to their normal levels now. I have been waiting for the pill to be available, but did not know it was until the Independent article two days ago. It is too late for this year, but I will certainly be trying to get it next year, and if it is unavailable on the NHS I would certainly pay £67.50 a month to avoid the three months of misery. At the moment it only seems to be available on the Internet from Canada for $325US for 30 pills which seems a bit expensive, but hopefully it will be more widely available, and cheaper by next year

I finally managed to persude my GP to prescribe the allergy tablets, back in March, and I can happily report that I'm practically sympton free, for the first summer in 15 years! I noticed that some of you, who had it on a trial 3-4 years ago, have had your symptoms return. Perhaps we need to keep taking it continuously for the 3 years, if we want a permanent cure. It will feel strange taking hayfever therapy while I'm skiing next Feb, but life can be wierd sometimes!

I suffer with hayfever every year as early as january and have recently been told after an allergy test that I am allergic to timothy grass. If there is an extract of timothy grass in the GRAZEX tablet will it make my sympthoms better or worse.

Brian Grazax is an extract of Timothy grass! If you showed a reaction to it in your test, then take it.
