Flu Vaccine Recommended for Asthmatics
Filed in archive Allergy Medications , Asthma , Gadgets and Tools Against Allergies on October 23, 2006
Have you had your flu shot yet? If you have asthma or other chronic health conditions, you consider having the shot soon, before the peak of the flu season starts. By the time December rolls in, you'll have developed immunity from the vaccine to fend of the virus.
Why is it important for those with asthma to get a flu vaccine?
Research has found that the flu shot decreases the risk of asthma exacerbations in patients by as much as 22% to 41%. In addition, it can also protect against acute asthma exacerbations in children. Vaccinating all children with asthma could prevent up to 78% of asthma hospitalizations and emergency room visits during influenza seasons.
If you're scared of needles, there's a nasal spray version. Ask your doctor if it's appropriate for you.
