First Food Allergy Reaction in 2009

Filed in archive Food Allergies by ruth on January 9, 2009

The new year has just begun and as before, one of my wishes is to have less number of allergy bouts this year than the last. Alas, my son greeted the year with an allergic cough followed by a food reaction a few days later. The culprit? Vietnamese spring rolls.

We were at a place with an open kitchen, and I've seen the ingredients they were using to make the rolls with my own two eyes. But one bite, and my son was saying "Mom, I can't eat this." I thought he was making excuses, or simply did not like the veggies, but one look at his face, and I knew. Fortunately, the reaction was not so bad. Well, ok, it was bad; it's always bad, with retching and puffy eyes, but at least we didn't need to rush to the ER.

Later on, I saw it. Where the heck did those peanuts come from?!? Darn, how could I have been so lax?
