Dealing with Mold Allergies
Filed in archive Mold Allergy on October 9, 2007
Molds and their spores may trigger allergic reactions much like the way pollen and dust mites do. They are often one of the most common culprits for indoor allergies, although naturally, mold spores are ubiquitous outdoors as well.

Mold allergies trigger basically the same symptoms as other nasal allergies or allergic rhinitis. Watery eyes, itchy nose and throat, followed by bouts of sneezing and running nose. In some individuals, these may progress to shortness of breath and wheezing characteristic of an asthma attack.
How does one deal with mold allergies? As with any other allergy, avoiding exposure is key. Here are some tips from the AAAFA to prevent the build up of mold and mildew in your home. For treatment of your symptoms, usually an antihistamine will rid you of most of your problems. In individuals with more severe symptoms, i.e., where an asthma attack may occur, physician can prescribe corticosteroid-inhalers or broncho-dilators.
