Breasfeeding Despite Food Allergies
Filed in archive Food Allergies , Living with Allergies on August 29, 2006
You think food allergies in babies are manifested when they start eating their first food? Nope! A lot of allergens are passed onto the mother's milk, so breastfed babies may already show allergic reactions to food, long before they first have a taste of solid food themselves.
Breastfeeding is confounding enough for some moms, adding allergies to the equation makes it all the more difficult. Here's Tracey Delamarter's story, showing what a challenge it can be to nurse a baby with food allergies.
It's tough, but breastmilk is still best for your child, maybe especially when they have food allergies. It'll take a lot of perseverance and focus to resist switching to formula instead. And in situations like these, friends, family, books and online support group may be your Lifeline, during breastfeeding, and beyond.
