Banning Peanuts in Schools
Filed in archive Food Allergies , Living with Allergies on July 23, 2006
In some schools in Canada where there are children with peanut allergies, all kids are banned from bringing peanuts or peanut-containing food into school. And it works, not only for those schools with bans, but also for those which don't.
"We were surprised to find that, in schools where peanuts are permitted, they only show up in 5 percent to 10 percent of lunches," she said. "Parents don't know whether the policy applies in their child's classroom, so they are choosing to avoid peanuts."
Isn't that neat?
What is your school's policy on avoiding peanut allergy incidents?
