Are Water-Filter Vacuum Cleaners More Effective Against Allergies?

© trekkyandyFor the last few months, I've been hearing a lot about water-based vacuum cleaners, and how it's effective in sucking up allergy causing dust and other airborne undesirables. A friend of mine had a sales guy come over and do a demo at her home and still raves about her new home gadget whenever an opportunity arises. Apparently, you can't simply pick up these uber-expensive vacuum cleaners from the shops. You need to go through some kind of distribution network (sounds like an MLM, but that's another story).
Apparently, there are two popular brands for these water based vacuum cleaners: Rainbow and Delphin. There may be other brands, too, but these two are the ones I often hear of.
Both claim to help relieve allergies, but are they really more efficient than HEPA vaccum cleaners? One study I've come across says that for cat allergens at least, water-filter vacuum cleaners actually increase airborne cat allergens instead of reducing it.
Obviously, we need to look for more info on this outside of those information that the companies feed the consumers.
