Apples and Apple Juice Reduce Asthma Risk in Children
Filed in archive Asthma , Asthma , Information About on September 18, 2007
Another study which has been published in the journal Thorax reiterates previous findings that apples and apple juice consumption during pregnancy reduced the incidence of asthma and wheezing among their children up til they were 5 years old. Just a few months ago, I reported on a similar study, indicating that a maternal diet rich in fish and apples reduced the incidence of childhood asthma.
According to the authors of the new study, the protective effect from apples is due to their powerful phytochemical content, which includes flavonoids, isoflavonoids, and phenolic acids. Indeed, may health benefits have been attributed to apple consumption, such as anti-cancer and memory-boosting effects. Seems that there really is substance in the old adage that an apple a day keeps the doctor away!
