It's autumn and time for apple-picking! What do you do with your bushels and bushels of apples? Apple pies, apple pies and more apple pies!

Allergy-Free Apple Pie Recipe

Unfortunately, for those with food allergies, particularly to wheat, egg and milk, it's hard to substitute the ingredients with allergy-safe ones and still come up with a pie that's as good as the "real" one. But, if there's a will (or if there's no choice), there's a way and Janeen of Our Story found it!

That apple pie you see on the photo is totally allergen-free. No wheat flour, no eggs, no milk, no butter, no nuts. The crust calls for:
  • 1/2 cup buckwheat flour

  • 1/2 cup sorghum flour

  • 1 cup white rice flour

  • 1 tsp. of xanthan gum

  • 2/3 cup canola oil

  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

  • 1 tbs. sugar

  • 7 tbs. cold water (add another tbs. one at a time if necessary)

And here's what you'll need for the filling and crumble on top:
  • 6-7 Macintosh apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin

  • 1/4 cup of lemon juice

  • 3 tbs. corn starch

  • 1/3 cup white rice flour

  • 1 tbs. cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup of sugar (or to taste if you like it more or less sweet)

  • 4 tbs. dairy free margarine, softened
