Allergy Alerts From Your Cellphone
Filed in archive Gadgets and Tools Against Allergies , Living with Allergies on September 26, 2006
How would you like to receive health alerts while you're on the road? Let's say you're in a new place and there's something in the air -- pollens, chemicals, or some other allergen -- enough to trigger a bad fit. You can't sniff or see it, but your cellphone buzzes and alerts you.
Such is the design of new smart-phones being developed by Gentag. Using a patented technology, sensors with low-cost RFID technology is incorporated into devices such as cell phones, PDAs, pagers, or watches and enable people to perform diagnostic testing.
A particular focus of this particular technology is to allow individuals with multiple chemical sensitivities to customize and train their cell phones to recognize specific chemicals that cause person-specific allergies in order to help reduce asthma attacks or chemically induced allergies worldwide.
Sounds like a great tool, if and when it's introduced into market. The question that just remains is how low-cost is low-cost.
